The companies linked to the Gürtel case obtained more than seven million € from the Generalitat Valencia regional government at the same time that they were allegedly buying the suits and garments for the regional government leaders.

The Valencia High Court has heard that items worth 21.300 € were given to Francisco Camps, the ex President of the Valencia region, and to General Secretary of the PP in Valencia, Ricardo Costa.

The connection of the suits case to the rest of the Gürtel case has become clear in the court, with the revelation that the administration in Valencia signed as many as 70 contracts with the different companies of the corrupt network between 2004 and 2010.

The prosecution alleges that the Generalitat split contracts into small sections to hand pick to whom they went to, but five civil servants from the regional government told the court on Friday that the Orange Market contracts were legal, and said that they had received no pressure.

Defence lawyers and the judge have once again had to ask Francisco Camps to keep quiet in the court. The judge asked him to sit where he could clearly see him, and reminded him to make any gestures to anybody, ‘least of all the witness’.

As the case completes two weeks, we can now expect the verdict against Camps and Costa after the Three Kings, and indeed the case could extend until January 12.

On Monday 2 another dozen of people who work in the regional government, and who took part in the selection of tenders, have been called to declare, and on the 3rd and 4th we will hear from the technicians and inspectors from Hacienda and from the police.
